Blogger's Week

Monday
Julie Halpern was the first presenter that I saw. She seemed to like presenting her works. She was funnier than most of the other presenters. She told stories that most people have not been through, allowing students to see how she got her ideas. I liked that she did not focus to much on the writing but rather how she became a writer. She showed how anyone can become a writer.

Tuesday
On tuesday several students performed, some bettert than others. Tamara performed first I think. Her story was interesting, because it expressed the view of someone who hurts their bestfriend because of "love" rather then then traditional boring "my best friend stole my boyfriend" story. I liked it because it was not whiny like some others. Then two girls read there poems they were short. They tried to be meaningful, but it did not have much of an impact on me. John Stoller-Shoff's performance was awesome. It was intresting hearing how he interacted with different stranger's on planes. It may have been more interesting because I know John and could picture his facial reactions to the bird lady. Then came Unser. He seemed confident and to have a good effort, but i did not apreciate his performance. The issue he discussed is not that relevant. I felt his jokes were immature. I remember thinking, "I would probably be laughing if I was in 8th grade." I'm not quite sure why the writers week sponsers allowed him to make the innuendos.

Wednesday
The first reaction I had to her was something along the lines of, "this woman is crazy." After hearing more of her works I still have the same perspective. However her poems were captivating and wanted to make me here more slam poetry. I liked how she put herself in other peoples' perspective and viewpoints to write poems. She had great passion. I can see why she is ranked highly in slam poetry.

Thursday
It was an intresting day because it was only music performances. Fox I can hardly seem to remember, but her performance seemed to be much like Dever's. Both annoyed me because they seemed to be trying to get the Taylor Swift stylee. It's annoying to have that pop/country mix with very few different chords and progressions. It annoyied me and their lyrics did not have much to any meaning. Deena was really talented and kinda funny with the whole hand thing. Hannah Lee was great. Her voice sounder very in tune and in rythm. She had great musical sence overall. She also had a very fun speech performance that reminded me of my friends little brother. Davy's performance I thought was one of the better ones. He creeated his own beat and clean lyrics. I thought this would have been very hard to do. Daniel also made a rap. I didn't like his as much because he just used the back music from soundtrack to my life.

Friday
Billy Lombardo presented today. I did not like him as much as others. Maybe it was just because I am not a huge fan of baseball or maybe it is because he did not have enough enthusism. He seemd to want to rely on his works to get him through the presentation rather than rely on on us to get feedback on his presentation. He seemed to base too much of his work on reality. It was nice that he tried to say that anyone can be writers.

I guess the most important thing I got out of writer's week was knowing that anyone can become a writer. None of the professionals said they started striving to be writers since their early childhood. I learned more about slam poetry, also. I did not really know what it was and how it differed from traditional poetry. After Sierra's performance, I have a better understanding. I also now can recognize the talents of my peers I had no idea that Johnathon was a great writer after knowing him for years and I would not have guessed that so many people had so much musical talent. I also learned their are many ways for youth to become involved in writing such as Zeans, blogs and magazines. Writers Week was entertaing, as well as informantive. I learned that maybe I should share more of my work. I might possibly present at Writers Week next year.
