First They Killed my Father
I really enjoyed First They Killed my Father because this book really taught me to not hold back in life. It taught me to really treasure where I am in life, treasure the things I have, and to really, genuinely love my family. Every word that I read, I knew that this actually happened to a Loung, an actual, real person. This may have been the reason for my sympathy to peep out from under, but it in whole really touched my heart. I really liked how Loung wrote the whole story, not holding back gory details and truly portraying what she saw. I sincerely admire her for that. To think that during Writers Week she was able to talk about her story to strangers. For her to be even able to live after that traumatic experience, that astounds me.
Inherit the Wind
The only character in Inherit the Wind was Hornbeck with his comedic moments that I personally didn’t expect. But I disliked the overall concept of the book. Sure, writing a book about a trial that really happened without making it word by word is hard, but I felt that the book didn’t really have “spice”. The only real thing that I will most likely remember years later is the death at the end. This may sounds stupid for saying but I really hated the hardcore religious belief, the community’s mentality, the love stuff, and the ending was bland. I may not be able to even finish one of my stories that I write because of my loss of inspiration, but I truly believe what I think.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
I am a fan of Shakespeare. I admit it. I absolutely love his plays. But in comparison to Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream was boring and not at all comedic from my view point. I love Shakespeare’s diction but the story was boring. The lovers end up lovers and the people get to put on a bad play. The end.
Overall, I feel that Shakespeare wasn’t really up to par when it came to this book in comparison to his others. It was just tasteless (no offense to Shakespere!!!).
My Antonia
I will be critical. I liked how the book started. It was interesting with young fascination, death, and friendship. Then came puppy love, drama, and more drama. But when I got to the last part in My Antonia, it was a happy ending but Antonia was poor and Jim didn’t even get the girl! Not even one out of the three!!!
Also, I disagree with Oleg. Sure, it seems that Jim is “glorifying: his youth, but I think that he wrote this in memories of an experience that changed his life and when he gets old, he wants to be able to look back and remember happy days. Well, if I was Jim I would write for this reason.
WoOHoooOooOOoooOo!!!!!!
With moments to spare :-) !
I almost didn't make it because of the mean font thing!
