1st Semester Posts

First of all, this is Michael Krupa writing on Clayton's blog again. My email never works and it won't let me log on again. Also, sorry for the blank the blog i just posted. I accidentally clicked enter. Remember this is Michael Krupa, not Clayton.

Catcher in the Rye: Catcher in the Rye was a very interesting book but i did not care for it very much. I felt Holden got extremely annoying and it got very boring to read about him talk about phonies every chapter. The overall plotline of the book was creative and got my attention, but Salinger made Holden a very lame and dull character. Most of what Holden said throughout the book took away from the creativeness of the story and he was the primary reason i didn't like the book too much.

First they killed my father: I liked this book a lot and it was very inspiring and interesting to read. The book was simple and easy to understand, but it still had intriguing events throughout the book. Loung's perseverance to make it out alive made me want to keep reading to see if it was possible to make it through the awful conditions. The book was very entertaining to read, and it was my second favorite book of the semester.

My antonia: My Antonia was my least favorite book of first semester. I felt the idea of being a new family to America on a farm got very boring and hard to read. It was hard to relate to since it was about something i have never experienced in my life, immigration. The other books such as first they killed my father and inherit the wind were much more easy to understand because i already had knowledge on the Cambodia situation, and what a trial is like. That factor made My Antonia seem very plain and boring to me.

A Midsummer Night's Dream: In my opinion, this book was very good and fun to read. It had a lot of irony with which characters were in love with who, and it was exciting to find out what would end up happening. Although the characters ended up all falling in love with the right people, which was very predictible, the problems the characters went through always kept me reading. The use of the three seperate groups of people all meeting up in the forest added good tension between characters in the story. If i had to make a recommendation, i would suggest this book to anyone who has not read it before.

Inherit the Wind: Inherit the wind, which is about the John Scopes trials, was easily my favorite book of the semester. It was very interesting to read about how evolution could or could not be taught in school because I learn about that stuff myself in science class all year. Also, i liked it alot because there weren't that many big characeters to follow because it was mainly about the 4 people in the trial so it was very easy to follow. These reasons make it my favorite book I've read so far this year and it potentially could be my favorite of the year.
