Sorry to disagree...

# 34

Sorry Lizzy and Joe, but I do feel that adults treat me as a equal. I do get that patronizing tone that you were speaking of, and yeah it really annoys me. After I get over the feeling of wanting to hit them, I can sorta put myself into their shoes, and see why they might have made that really snooty comment in the first place.
However the main reason why I feel this way, is because I have a problem that requires the cooperation of the teachers to fix. See, I have a hearing loss in one ear, so in order to get the most out of class, I need to speak up when I have a problem. So if I can't hear the teacher I have to tell him/her, and they, by district policy have to act on it. Even if responding to my hearing problem is enforced by the school, I think that they would do something anyway because that's the kind of person they are. I mean, what are they going to do, blow you off because you are younger? In my very limited experience, I find if you speak earnestly to adults they tend to listen and judge you on what you say, not how old you are.
That's not to say that some person will just think they are better then you because he is older. Or that someone will think all that you say is in " a bad tone", but I think the majority of adults will take you seriously.
