Stripped of Me

The right to think? Is that what the trial was really on? Or was it the right to believe? Two plus two. I think the answer is four. We think when we make decisions. We think when we need answers. But there's a difference between thinking and believing. We think about things, whereas with believing, we believe in things. In Inherit the Wind, the crime committed was teaching religion in a classroom. This meant going against religion. This meant denying religion. This meant choosing not to believe in religion.
Whether the play was based around the right to think or the right to believe, i never thought of how much of an impact taking away that right would have on my life. I've grown up with the privilege of thinking freely. This is how it's always been for me. My mind is free to roam, free to challenge, free to discover. What if that was taken away? What if i was brought up to believe only what i was taught? No questions asked. No need for opinions, no need for personal beliefs. I would be stripped of my personality, of what makes me who i am. I would be stripped of me.
