The Idea of the Right to Think

I agree with the last post (anonymous) that people have the right to think what they want to think. I also agree with Shivani’s question of are we influenced by our friends and family about what we think? I think that we are definitely influenced by what we think by our friends and family because we grow up our whole life with them and we develop their attitude towards certain situations. Again with Shivani’s question, we are taught that certain situations are bad and some are good, but you get to decide which idea you would like to follow. Like Anonymous stated, we can think about whatever we want to and we shouldn’t be judged. Like Brady and Shivani said, it’s really hard to control our thinking because there is a great big world out there that we are yet to explore it and we need to think of different ideas so that we can agree or disagree on them and know what most people are thinking. Also, the right to think is so basic and we do it without even thinking about it. I also agree with Karen that we might take the right to think for granted when other countries still use the right to think in their society. It might have helped us as a country to think upon one idea, but then again, it would restrict our individuality. After reading this play, it is evident to me that the right to think is such a soft topic. At the same time, it is also very controversial. It is soft because most of us probably don't stop to think about everything we say. The right to think seems like such a small idea, but like Brady said, it has a great effect on us. I agree with Anonymous, Lizzy, and Alex that book burning definitely takes away your right to think. I agree with Lizzy and Alex that in Fahrenheit 451, the government tries to control everyone's right to think, but by the end of the book, they try so hard to make everyone think the same ideas, that they only end up hurting themselves. In Fahrenheit 451, the government tries to control everyone's mind because the government is scared, but they can't actually do that because we have the power to think about anything. Everybody has the right to think.
