Yikes! Writer Week is over!

Monday: Julie Halpern
I thought Monday’s presenter was the best of all. I liked her easygoing personality as she was able to make fun of herself a lot and laugh about it too. I also liked how she not only talked about her current writing, but also talked about her publisher and how she started writing. I liked and thought that it was interesting how she showed us the different versions of her book’s cover before the publisher decided on the current cover. In the end though, I thought the most interesting part was when she introduced me to a “zean”. In fact, I did not know that a thing called a “zean” even existed!

Tuesday: Alexanian, Stoller-Schoff, Currie, McCaffrey, Francis, Ahmed
Overall, Tuesday’s student presenters were decent. Like a lot of things in the world, I thought that some people were excellent, but others were decent. For example one thing that annoyed me was that Currie talked really softly. Don’t get me wrong, I thought her poems were great, but her quietness made it hard for me to hear her. On the other hand, I thought Stoller-Schoff and Ahmed were very entertaining. First of all, Stoller-Schoff had a very interesting topic that was on watching people in an airplane. In Ahmed’s presentation, there was a lot of humor that I liked and I also liked how he entwined a real life issue into a humorous skit.

Wednesday: Sierra DeMulder
Although her presentation was not my favorite, there wasn’t much that I really did not like either. I thought that her poems were well written and interesting. On the other hand, I did not like the tone of her voice because I thought it sounded forced and fake. Towards the end though, I started to get a little bored with her poems after hearing so many.

Thursday: Fox, Bishop, Mellado, Dever, Ghadaksaz, Lee
Thursday was one of the most interesting days of Writers week for me. I thought the presenters must have had a lot of guts to make music in tune in front of all the people in the auditorium. Contrary to what I usually think, I thought that everything was excellent. I liked how they added some humor into their songs and how some of them incorporated technology into their songs.

Friday: Billy Lombardo
I thought that Lombardo’s presentation was okay. I thought that he read too much of his book because it seemed like, except from him telling us that he like baseball, that he read most of the time. I would have liked it better if he had said why, how, and when he started writing books and how he became published. In the end, it was not a bad presentation, but I wasn’t terribly excited about it.
After Writers Week was over, I think I got many things out of Writer’s Week. I found out that many professional writers started out like any common person and with hard work became better. I also learned what a “zean” was. In addition, I found out that personal stories are easier to tell as most of the student presenters spoke about a personal event in their life. Also, I learned that music was also a form of writing as presenters at Writers Week played music also. Most importantly though, I found out that any person is capable of writing and should not be afraid to tell people about it.
