Inherit the Wind was the first book we read. It was an easy play that started the year off well. It was a somewhat interesting book. I was never too familiar about the real trial this play is based on, therefore it gave me a little bit of history that i had not previously had known. It was odd at first about reading this play and them my name "Brady" pop up every now and then because of Matthew Harrison Brady.
The next book we read was My Antonia. I am with what others have said about the book, kind of boring... This was probably my least favorite book we read this year as of now. It was very long and what made it seem longer was its lack of suspense and the boring factor. The story about Pavel and Pete (the two Russians, I cannot exactly recall their names.) was one of the most exciting parts. This will not be recommended to others by me.
Catcher in the Rye would be third on the list of what we read this year in English Class. This was one of the better books. It was interesting as to where would he go next and what will happen to him. Like Oleg said it was predictable. Once you learned he had dropped out of other schools in the past. You already knew he was going to drop out of Pencey. What he was going to do out of Pencey was not predictable. It was also kind of saddening about his brother and Holden ending up in a rehab facility.
A Mid Summer Night's Dream was not as bad as i thought it would be. It was very easy to understand the first time around unlike a lot of Romeo and Juliet. It was not hilarious but it was funny with the potion mistake and the Jamaican voices as Joe had stated. Nick Bottom was funny as well as his head being turned into a donkey's. I am sure i will appreciate reading a comedy in the future when i have to read more tragedies.
Last but not least would be First They Killed My Father. Once i learned we were going to read a book over Winter Break i was a little sad and angry at the same time. Who wants to read over break? (Unless you enjoy reading books all the time. Occasionally a good book is nice.) I saw that it was about 200 pages and I knew it was going to take forever to read. I read a little bit each night before going to bed and once Penom Pehn (Spelling?) was invaded the memoir became more interesting. I ended up enjoying the book. It was very action packed and sort of depressing. It did not take as long to read as i thought because it was interesting. IT was definitely and good Holiday season book but nonetheless very good.
Oleg said backwards:
Typing backwards is fun. Who wants to have a backwards conversation?
I would not want to have a backwards conversation as it takes to long to translate sometimes.
