Like David said, I have been heavily influenced by my parents ideas about religion and politics. I grew up in a strictly Catholic and conservative family. My parents forced us as kids to go to church once a week and when ever we would discuss politics it always glorified the conservatives. Sometimes, actually frequently I question the religion I grew up with. I truthfully am always afraid of what my dad would think of me if I told him I ocassionally have doubts. I don't feel I am allowed to think or speak about this, especially at home. I know my right to think is much greater than the people that Madison and others have mentioned that live in almost totalitarian states such as China and North Korea.
In responce to Alex Taikwell, I also have read 1984 by George Orwell. I enjoyed the novel even though it destroyed some of the most basic rights of humans and that even animals can do. I am glad I live in the United States of America so I do not have to be tald how to think.

ReplyDeleteYour priest would probably be understanding and patient with your frequent occasional doubts.
